Loretta Lindsey Burns is the Founder and Executive Director of AB Christian Learning Center, a non-profit she established in 2006 to provide academic enrichment and out of school time programs for vulnerable youth in Fort Worth. In her role, she oversees organizational strategy, program development, and community partnerships, with a strong focus on student achievement and family engagement.
Recognizing the critical role parents play in their children’s education, Ms. Burns created the “Power of 7”, a transformative initiative that equips families to become active co-partners in their children’s education. In 2012, she expanded AB Christian Learning Center’s impact by incorporating the Children’s Defense Fund Freedom Schools® in its service to the community. Under her leadership, Freedom School operations have grown from one site to five, now serving up to 250 scholars each summer.
Before founding AB Christian Learning Center, Ms. Burns served four years in the United States Air Force, where she received an honorable discharge, after which she served as a civil servant with the federal government for 30 years. She also brings extensive teaching experience, having taught high school for four years and served as an adjunct college professor for ten years.
Ms. Burns earned both her Bachelor of Science in Business Management, and her Master’s in Interdisciplinary Studies from University of Texas at Arlington. She currently serves as a member of University North Texas Health Science Center Academic Community Partnerships Advisory Board; and a member of Cook Children's Health Plan Community Advisory Committee.
